David Barnes has been a cornerstone of Prime Powerteam for years, and his impact on the team extends far beyond results on the track. As a driver, his resume speaks for itself: Canadian Karting Champion, KartStars National Champion, and multiple HRKC club championships. Few racers in Canada have accomplished as much as David has behind the wheel.
But what truly sets David apart is his character. He’s not the loudest in the tent, nor does he need to be. His quiet, calm, and collected approach makes him a true lead-by-example type. He’s selfless with his time, always willing to lend a hand, share advice, and support those around him. That spirit was recognized at last year’s HRKC banquet, where David was honored with the Leadership Award presented by Magna—an accolade he more than deserved.
While David has always been a leader on track, this year he’s taken things to another level off the track. For years, David has been a go-to coach for Briggs drivers at the club, and this season he has really taken our Mini Max drivers under his wing—serving as a coach, mechanic, and mentor. Of course, it is not all David—our coaches and team staff all work together to support our drivers—but his influence cannot be denied. His guidance has played a major role in helping our young drivers thrive, and it’s no surprise that several of them are now threats to win at every major race.
Of course, leadership isn’t just about results—it’s about attitude and work ethic. Whether it’s setting up and tearing down the tent, jumping in to help with a kart, or offering encouragement at just the right time, David does it all without hesitation and always with a smile. His dedication, humility, and team-first mindset embody everything Prime Powerteam stands for.
