Whether you’re looking to upgrade your current kart for 2027 or you’re buying your first kart, a team-used chassis can be an excellent option. You can save significantly compared with buying new while getting race-proven equipment that has been professionally maintained and inspected.
But what exactly is a “team-used” chassis? Where do all these karts come from? And why does Prime Powerteam have so many available at the end of the season?
Here’s everything you need to know.
What Is a Team-Used Chassis?
As a national race team, Prime Powerteam welcomes a wide variety of drivers under our tent throughout the season.
Many drivers own their equipment and bring it to the track themselves. Our job is to provide the coaching, setup, tuning and technical support necessary to help them get the most out of their package.
Other drivers come to us looking for a completely turnkey solution. That’s what we typically refer to as an Arrive & Drive program.
The concept is simple: the driver arrives at the track and we provide the chassis, engine and equipment needed to race. Think of it somewhat like renting a kart — except this is professionally prepared racing equipment designed to compete at the highest levels of karting.
There are plenty of reasons drivers choose this option.
For example, we had several drivers from the UK join Prime Powerteam for Rotax racing in the United States this season. Transporting a complete kart and equipment back and forth across the Atlantic simply doesn’t make sense when they can arrive and have competitive equipment waiting for them.
At the other end of the spectrum are drivers competing for every last hundredth of a second, particularly at the sharp end of the Senior categories. Some of these drivers want to remain on extremely fresh equipment throughout the season. Rather than continually buying and selling chassis themselves, they use our equipment and we make sure they’re always on a very low-use chassis.
Other drivers simply don’t want the hassle of storing, maintaining or transporting their own kart. The chassis stays with Prime, our mechanics maintain it, we transport it to the events and it’s ready when the driver arrives.
The result?
Prime goes through a lot of chassis during a racing season.
We had close to 50 different drivers race with Prime Powerteam this year. While not every one of them participated in an Arrive & Drive program, enough did that by the end of the season our back shop is pretty full.
With 2027 equipment approaching, it’s time to make some room. Here are some of the advantages to buying Team-Used.
1. Significant Savings — Often More Than You Might Expect
Cost is probably the most obvious reason to consider a team-used chassis, but the savings can be greater than many racers expect.
There’s a natural assumption that buying a chassis directly from a national race team is going to come at a premium. In reality, our team-used chassis are often priced extremely competitively — even compared with similar equipment being sold privately.
A lot of racers start their search on Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji or karting buy-and-sell groups, assuming that’s where they’ll find the best deal. There are certainly good deals to be found, but often it is older, very used equipment, and don’t automatically assume that buying privately means buying cheaper.
Selling used chassis isn’t a major profit centre for Prime Powerteam. These are chassis we’ve already used within our race programs, and at the end of the season our priority is to move that inventory and make room for new equipment arriving for 2027.
That creates some excellent buying opportunities.
In many cases, you may find a professionally maintained Prime team-used chassis for less than you’d expect to pay for comparable equipment on the private market — sometimes with considerably less use as well.
The savings become even greater compared with purchasing new, particularly as you move from our one- or two-race-used chassis into equipment with several events or a full season of use.

Why Don’t We Post Team-Used Chassis Prices Online?
We get this question regularly, and there’s nothing secretive about it.
The simple answer is that there are too many different chassis, conditions and usage levels, and the inventory changes too quickly.
Once our annual chassis sale begins, equipment can move quickly. A published list can become outdated almost immediately.

And yes — the prices may surprise you.
2. Choose the Age and Price Point That Works for You
Buying new is straightforward: you’re buying a brand-new chassis at a brand-new chassis price.
Buying team-used gives you considerably more flexibility.
Our end-of-season inventory can include chassis with just one or two races of use, chassis that have completed three, four, five or six events, and equipment that has been used for a complete season.
Generally, the more use a chassis has seen, the greater the savings.
That means the right choice depends on what you’re looking for.
A racer chasing championships at the national level may want an extremely fresh one- or two-race-used chassis. A club racer upgrading an older kart may find that a chassis with more use represents exceptional value. Someone entering karting for the first time may prefer putting more of their budget toward an engine, tires, tools and track time rather than spending everything on a brand-new chassis.
There isn’t one right answer — and that’s one of the biggest advantages of having a large selection of team-used equipment.

3. You Know What You’re Buying
Perhaps the biggest advantage of purchasing team-used equipment isn’t the price at all.
It’s knowing where the chassis came from.
Buying any used racing equipment privately requires a certain amount of trust. A listing might describe a kart as lightly used or race-winning, but it can be difficult to know its complete history or exactly what you’re getting.
With a Prime Powerteam chassis, the equipment has spent its racing life being looked after by professional race mechanics.
Our chassis are routinely maintained throughout the season and, before being offered for sale, are thoroughly inspected by our team. That includes checking the chassis and components and verifying alignment so that we’re comfortable with the equipment we’re selling.
Prime Powerteam competes to win races and championships. Our results depend in part on the quality and preparation of our equipment, so maintaining that equipment properly isn’t optional — it’s part of what we do every race weekend.
